Asking me to name a favorite food is like asking me to pick my favorite movie. I have tons of favorites, so you have to break it down by genre:
It’s in the 70’s and it’s sunny. Living in Arizona, there is nothing better than this weather. We bundle up in scarves and coats and wait through the long, “cold” winter just for this!
I don’t know if there is anything better than a day off. At our house a day off means sleeping in, catching up on the things that keep getting pushed to the bottom of the to do list (this post!), and making sure there is time to do “something fun”. On the “Something Fun” agenda for today is tennis and a movie.
Over the last few weeks we have had THE best customer service experiences:

You don’t have to look hard or far to find examples of injustice. Yesterday while I was reading the newspaper I saw stories about child abuse, cruelty to animals and greedy people taking advantage of the programs meant to help those in need. While I was reading these stories I felt mad and sad, both at the same time. As one small person in this big world, I don’t have a lot of power to affect change where it matters most. I’m not a billionaire so starting a foundation or scholarship program isn’t an option. I don’t own a ranch with hundreds of open acres for rehabilitating injured animals. And I don’t feel like I know enough about how government works to effectively voice my opinions to lawmakers.

Certain things are a guaranteed good time:

I am a native Phoenician. Born and raised. I left for six years, but I came back. Knowing this would it surprise you to hear that rain is one of my favorite things? It might seem like someone who loves rain should live in Seattle or somewhere back east. Anywhere really besides Phoenix, Arizona where we get an average of seven inches per year (I found this stat on the Internet so I know it’s true). I’ll admit I have a super short list of places I’d move to willingly and Seattle is on my list!

When you hear the phrase “favorite things” you probably imagine one of two things:
I’ll be honest, if you were to ask me to list my favorite things, most days my list looks a lot more like this:
And not so much like this:
As you’ve probably figured out, in my column I’ll be sharing my very own favorite things. Don’t worry, I’m not going to be recommending $40 organic hot chocolate or warm woolen mittens. That would be ridiculously impractical in Phoenix. Even so, the favorites in these posts are worth getting excited about and are guaranteed to keep you from feeling sad (think dog bites, bee stings, etc.). Today’s Favorite Thing: Seeing Your talents at Work I am so impressed by how much was completed yesterday at the 4Sixteen work day! For those of you who couldn’t be there, let me fill you in:
On a more serious note, we have been talking a lot about talents and gifts lately. The question seems to keep coming up – do you know what your gifts are? How do you use your gifts in the body? While drawing, taping off walls, or cleaning paint off of the carpet aren’t necessarily spiritual gifts, they were definitely the talents that we happened to need yesterday. Special thanks to Alex, Amy, Chelsea, Cheri, Daniel, Jacquelyn, Jared, Jonelle, Ky, Lhauren, Maria, Megan, Michael, Nadine, Nick, Rebeka, Roshelle and Terri! You guys made my week and are officially today’s favorite things. :) I hope everyone has a chance to stop by for our second and final work day this coming Sunday September 19th. We’ll be upstairs working immediately after church until 5:00 p.m. Whether you can stay for the entire time or want to hang out for an hour after the a.m. service, we would love to have you! -Allison
