‘Introductions’

Introduction…

September 28th, 2010 | 4Sixteen, Introductions | 2 Comments

Well, I guess I’m the latecomer to this whole blogging thing…  I’m feeling some pressure following after all of these great blog series like “Ask Jeff,” Allison’s “Favorite Things”, etc.  For now, I think I’m going to go sans-title, and write about whatever happens to be on my mind when I sit down to type…  The only rules for my blog are (1) no emoticons, and (2) no texting abbreviations.

JK ;)

But seriously… no more emoticons.

Anyway, I hope I can find ways to entertain, uplift, and challenge you in my future articles. For today, I just want to tell you all how excited I am to start our upcoming “Worship Wednesdays” in our new classroom.  If you haven’t already seen the 4Sixteen room, it’s going to be quite possibly the coolest place in the entire building to be on Wednesday night.  We’re going to spend the majority of the class worshiping in song, with some scripture, prayer, a short devotional, and even post-class coffee time mixed in.  It’s going to be awesome… I hope you’ll be there!

Hey! Isn’t that Interesting?

September 17th, 2010 | 4Sixteen, Introductions, Isn't that interesting? | 2 Comments

Hey guys!

It’s Gaby here with this new column that I will be sporadically writing among other regular posts. It’s called “Hey! Isn’t that interesting?” A column that will take an interesting story or fact and apply a lesson from it to your life!

I’m always interested in cool and often unusual stories. They make things exciting and captivating. Stories can also make complex themes and ideas more understandable to people.

Today’s installment of “Hey! Isn’t that Interesting?” is the story of a man named John Paul Stapp. A man who would become a real life human bullet all in his dedication to science!

Continued after the jump.

Favorite Things

September 13th, 2010 | 4Sixteen, Favorite Things, Introductions | 3 Comments

When you hear the phrase “favorite things” you probably imagine one of two things: I’ll be honest, if you were to ask me to list my favorite things, most days my list looks a lot more like this: And not so much like this: As you’ve probably figured out, in my column I’ll be sharing my very own favorite things.  Don’t worry, I’m not going to be recommending $40 organic hot chocolate or warm woolen mittens.  That would be ridiculously impractical in Phoenix.  Even so, the favorites in these posts are worth getting excited about and are guaranteed to keep you from feeling sad (think dog bites, bee stings, etc.). Today’s Favorite Thing: Seeing Your talents at Work I am so impressed by how much was completed yesterday at the 4Sixteen work day!  For those of you who couldn’t be there, let me fill you in:

  • You will be shocked the next time you see the room!  It is repainted and just about ready to be redecorated.
  • We have perhaps the most unique party invitation you will ever receive!
  • An actual elementary school teacher is leading efforts to put together the best bulletin board in the entire building.  Whoever said bulletin boards were just for kids?!?
  • And we now have enough new song books that we need visitors!

On a more serious note, we have been talking a lot about talents and gifts lately.  The question seems to keep coming up – do you know what your gifts are?  How do you use your gifts in the body?  While drawing, taping off walls, or cleaning paint off of the carpet aren’t necessarily spiritual gifts, they were definitely the talents that we happened to need yesterday.  Special thanks to Alex, Amy, Chelsea, Cheri, Daniel, Jacquelyn, Jared, Jonelle, Ky, Lhauren, Maria, Megan, Michael, Nadine, Nick, Rebeka, Roshelle and Terri!  You guys made my week and are officially today’s favorite things.  :) I hope everyone has a chance to stop by for our second and final work day this coming Sunday September 19th.  We’ll be upstairs working immediately after church until 5:00 p.m.  Whether you can stay for the entire time or want to hang out for an hour after the a.m. service, we would love to have you! -Allison

I was told that I needed to introduce myself and tell what my column is going to be about.

My name is Jack Farr and there are no boundaries for my column.

To be continued . . .

Welcome to 4Sixteen!

September 4th, 2010 | 4Sixteen, Ask Jeff, Introductions | 10 Comments

Well, this is my first official post! First, I want to start off by saying how excited I am to be part of the NEW singles ministry at Mesa. There is really so much coming up that we have been planning all summer. I want to say so much but it will all come out in its time and I don’t want to rush anything.

For right now I just want you all to make sure that your friends are aware of this blog, as well as, our 4Sixteen Facebook account. These two social sites will be the main way that we communicate to you throughout the week. The ministry leaders have all committed to having their own “column” on this blog. We will each be posting our thoughts, Bible studies, or just general updates multiple times throughout the week. So, it is important that you check the blog several times a week to stay updated.

Lastly, I would like to introduce you to my column on this blog. It will be titled “Ask Jeff”. My column will be there for you to submit questions that you have on the Bible or in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with your friends. When I get questions I will put them in order and then answer them as I get time throughout the week. I am excited to hear what questions you have!

Love one another! Jeff

Welcome!

Welcome to the 4Sixteen blog! Things are a little bare at the moment, but that’s all part of new beginnings, isn’t it? Here you will find information and updates about the new Mesa Church ministry 4Sixteen. I (Gabriel Rodriguez) will be posting here periodically along with a few others who will introduce themselves in good time.
